Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch (Norwegian: [ˈɛdvɑʈ muŋk]  ( listen); 12 December 1863 – 23 January 1944) was a Norwegianpainter and printmaker whose intensely evocative treatment of psychological themes built upon some of the main tenets of late 19th-century Symbolism and greatly influenced GermanExpressionism in the early 20th century.

The Scream is perhaps one of the most recognizable pieces of contemporary art. It has a child like terror to it. It affects us in the stomach. Like a punch.

A lot of Munch’s work seems to be about the unsettling relationship between men and women with regards to sex.

everything is lost in timeEmpires turn into dust. Buildings collapse. Libraries on fire. All art disappears in the ravages. To think anything else is vanity.
