One of the things I’ve always loved about collage work was the sense of ‘whimsy’. A kind of silliness. A universe where no great harm can come to you. The universe of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. This is the universe of Franz Falckenhaus.
Our brains are like subway stations where ideas rush through. Sometimes stopping.
In this piece I saw the residents of the house being broken down/ or made up of the geometric lines in the house, the furniture, the wiring, the rafters, the plumbing.
He had a glimpse into the horrors that were to come over the next 50 years. The apocalypse. End days or just war. One can hardly imagine the soul that painted these images.
