Jean-Baptiste Regnault

3 03 2013

Ignorance is never bliss. But it is revealing. In art, the naive eye sees what it sees. And in the case of painters like Jean-Baptiste Regnault, it knows nothing of his metaphors. Nor of the history of the myths he is trying to represent. But what it does see, is a lot of women undressed. And people gathered in the most inane assemblies, without reason, and in large and intimidating rooms. It all looks so surreal. Almost comic.
