Clara Hastrup

I’ve always found this idea fascinating. Looking through a pattern at a picture behind. Like looking through a cracked window. Your mind flicks back and forth. Clara Hastrup has taken this notion and run with it. Her work is beautiful. Although it is precariously close to furniture or adornment.

Adrian Callan

Adrian Callan is a photographer who has shot a series of photos of prostitution in an area called NANA in Thailand.

However there is a level of realism and life, which is uniquely Nana. From dusk ‘til dawn the area, and particularly soi 4, is a constantly changing backdrop for the people who live and work here. From the early hours, and until the early hours, life is raw and in your face.

That said it is also one of the safest places I have ever been. Violence is relatively rare, and petty crime equally surprisingly uncommon. The weird melee of people seems to have created a sort of natural balance. There are those who come to spend money and there are those who come to make it. The desires seem to find a natural equilibrium. Which creates a unique harmony not found in other seedy red light districts around the globe.

Mariska Karto

Mariska Karto. Sensual. Soft and slightly out of focus. Dream like. Wispy. Almost drowning feeling about the pictures. (Many look like classical paintings reset and shot.)

All the models are young. As if sexuality must be remembered as youth. Before decay sets in. Or loss of hair. Flabbiness. Cellulite. Wrinkles. And of course stretch marks.

and now for something completely different. Snake man.

Jonathan Bartlett

Jonathan Bartlett. He has ideas. His work is well done. Everything has a kind of middling feel to it. Nothing makes me want to turn up the dial.

And now for coincidences. There are none. Except for having the same name.

Claudio Di Carlo

Its all men think about. Apparently this is true for Claudio Di Carlo. Young women with long legs. Or just the legs. I keep looking for stories in his work. Something that gives those legs some apparent reason for being there. Outside of changing clothes I can’t find one. Of course you can’t go wrong with putting a picture of a pretty girl in. Right? What bothers me somewhat is that everyone looks like they’re going to a party or coming back from one. Doesn’t anyone every do laundry?
