Miss Moss

South African blogger Miss Moss took her favorite Spring 2012 collection, Kenzo (recently taken over by creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony) and re-imagined the best looks into a completely different scenery.

Its a wonderful idea. But are the dress designs as good as the paintings that they take home in. There is something very attractive about the idea. And they are nice to look at. Of course collage work is open to exploitation. This commercialism of works of art, the mass production of images to sell things is… I was going to say exploitive. But when you go to Rome or Paris you see this all the time. How many Van Gogh postcards are there? Or statues of David? The Church itself has made millions of dollars off the work of long dead artists. Art is the lamb. For the slaughter. And later the feast. And orgy.

Where does he get his name? Slinkachu. Perhaps its a group. They, he, or she do very small pieces. I don’t know why. But they seem funny. Is it the size that makes them appear to be commentaries? aka Jonathan Swift and Gulliver’s Travels.

Which reminds me of a great movie Sullivan’s Travels, directed by Preston Sturges.
