Phelgm

What an unusal name for parents to give their offspring. This is another guy who wants/is staying incognito. There must be some kind of street code. “A rose by any other…” This guy’s work is terrific. Its just amazing that these artists are around painting like this. They are outside the art circle much like the impressionists in their time.

Trash

I am unabashedly trying to convince people to check out my book, Trash. It was short listed (genetic predisposition) on the CBC Awards a couple of years ago. I reviewed it myself and found it to be a terrific read. Or red when you’re finished. (‘Bastard tricked me again!’)

My grandfather used to sneak out during the day to a brick wall that existed between he and his farming neighbour. Under a rock he would find the latest pulp novel. In that way my grandfather and his friend would exchange books, reading them in those lazy afternoons when it was too hot to work in the fields. I have dedicated these poems to those pulp novels.

Sten and Lex

14 09 2011

This is a new extension (for me) of street art using stencils. The pieces are large. Mural like. They have the look of newspaper photos. Blown up and pasted on walls. And like most posters pasted on walls there is a sense randomness. At the same time the size of the pieces would contradict this notion. There is not much info on the two artists. I don’t know it this is intentional (so many street artists remain anonymous) or accidental. Also a lot of work look like pictures from WWII. Or at least that generation.

Elizaveta Porodina

A young fashion photographer Ms. Porodina creates small episodes that are distinguished I think by a subtle story line and a fluid alien sexual content. They are staged. Not captured. Which to my mind means that they are collages.
