Winnie Truong

I’ve got to get a hair cut. Most of my youth my hair was down to my… belt. Now its short. And thats the way I like it. Ever since I got old man hair. Old man hair is grey/white. Also it is thin. Wispy. And it sticks out in odd directions. Sometimes you get hard stiff hairs that poke out of your eyebrows like horns. Some get hair suddenly flowing so graciously out of their ears. Or off their knuckles. Old age is for… old people. So why am I here? Lucky I guess. Considering the alternative.

This is what Winnie has to say about her work.

‘The work is about challenging those heavily coded ideas about the beautiful and the grotesque that exist in our culture.’

She also has a blog. http://winnietron.blogspot.com/

Ferry Van Vosselen

My brother-in-law won a prestigious award in Europe. Its called ‘Gouden Potllood’ (The Golden Pencil) and it basically celebrates his artistic contribution to the comic book industry. He goes by the name of Ferry. His real name is Ferdinand but during WWII his parents (living in occupied Belgium) were secretly keeping an RAF flier in their basement. (He had been shot down.) The flier couldn’t pronounce Ferdinand so he called the little guy Ferry. Ferry has been a comic strip artist for around 40 years. His books are translated into dozens of languages around the world. Everything except English.

There is an interview here with home on television. It is in Dutch. But you can see what he looks like and some of his work.
