Bicycle Thieves

It was the nineteen fifties. The suburbs. Septic tanks. Cape Cod houses. Row on row. New schools. Bullies. Mad boys. Black and white television. Aerials. Dogs running free. Pond hockey. Cigarettes. Teenage crushes. Bicycle Thieves. And death.

This photographer has decided to shoot his fashion models in water. The effects are interesting and somewhat surreal. Almost dreamlike.

John Kuna

These are murals done throughout the former Village of Islington, in the west end of the city of Toronto. Painted by John Kuna.  What is interesting about these murals is that they have been blended into the construction of the building where ever they are painted. They have been reviewed as ‘sentimental and harking  back to a past that never really existed and being a poor substitute for sights that no longer exist’. But I enjoy them. They are bright, excellently crafted, and fun to look at. A few of these murals were not done by John Kuna but I don’t know who that artist might be.  That woman you see in these pics is either my wife or my parole officer. I’ll get back to you later on that.

Maren Esdar

Maren Esdar does a nice job of marrying fashion and art. Some of her work borders on the strickly commercial. But is still interesting. She has an arresting sense of humour. And any cruise of her work will bring you delightful surprises. (God, I sound like a travelogue.)

A guy takes some pictures of beautiful women, scribbles on the page, calls it art/collage and people call  him a brilliant artist. Its so easy. No? No.
