I can find out very little about this artist. I don’t know if fugga is his name, joke, etc. But I do like his work. Some of it more than others. His work is more mainline (if I can say that) in the collage world. It is amusing. Though there are few risks taken. There are visual ideas. But few head ideas.

My ‘ed ‘urtz…
16 06 2011
The pieces on show are black & white versions of colour collages. Whereas colour gives one the illusion that one is looking at reality, it cannot be said that B&W is a version of something we might have seen in the real world. And yet a generation or two of people looked at b&w photographs as if they were seeing something that reflected reality. Their brains had been taught to suspend a critical judgement. Just as my generation suspended that critical factor when watching television and movies. All art is created with that belief system. So what is reality? Isn’t most of our lives lived in a world of suspended critical judgment. Who would get on an elevator? Who would eat fast food? Is reality something we can only refer to second handedly? As a social animal, is it something we do not experience most of our lives? Then what is the name for this experience we live? Immanuel Kant calls it phenomenon. Reality is noumena.

Ed Kuris
16 06 2011A friend of mine has started a blog. Ed comes out of the fog of time via the coal fields of Nova Scotia and the mountains of Slovakia. He was the top student in advertising at the Ontario College of Art. For years he worked in the commercial art world but returned to his first love, painting. He is also a poet so his blog should be interesting. It would be well worth one’s time to check it out.
